About Activ Energy Chemicals

Activ Energy Chemicals uses nanoActiv® technology developed by Nissan Chemical America Corporation.

While the primary use cases for nanoActiv® solutions are currently in oil and gas production and carbon sequestration, nanoparticle technology could offer major benefits to many more industries as a leading green technology solution.

What are nanoparticles?

We use Silica Dioxide nanoparticles, which is the same as sand. Our particles are basically miniature sand particles.

Do the particles stick together (agglomerate)?

No, the particles are all negatively charged; therefore, they do not agglomerate. If you use dual charged particles, they stick together.

Are nanoparticles safe?

Yes, the particles we use are non hazardous.

What size are the nanoparticles?

12 to 15 nanometers in diameter, about 5x smaller than a virus and able to access the smallest spaces.

How resilient (strong/tough) are the nanoparticles?

The particles will resist up to 325°F temperatures and high brine environments.

What kind of results occur?

Typically, a 20% increase.

How long do results last?

On existing oil and natural gas wells – years.

What else can the particles be used for?

Chemical performance improvement, carbon sequestration, pipeline cleaning, asset performance, etc. We have just begun to scratch the surface.

Does it help to reduce carbon?

Yes, directly in carbon sequestration applications, indirectly – if oil and gas assets are performing better, then fewer wells need to be drilled. If chemicals are performing better, then fewer hazardous chemicals need to be used and transported. When assets perform better- less carbon is emitted.

Where are the best places to use the particles?

With regards to oil and gas wells, new wells and existing wells. For existing wells, those performing at a “B” or “C” level (if we are using academic grading for reference).

Aside from the size and resilience, what else makes the nanoparticles so unique?

A little goes a long way- the nanoparticles can cover an enormous amount of surface area. Also, the number of applications continues to grow as we see benefits in new applications and developments.
